there’s no gain without any pain. or can be simplify as “no pain, no gain”. that’s what i and my beloved ones think about our destination: belitung. bangka-belitung or shorted as babel province is strolling across sumatra mainland from java and we only need less than 1 hour flight.
beautiful white sandy beaches, unspoilt places, bajo-buginese settlement, small granite islets surrounded by turquoise water, coconut trees, delicious grilled fish … what we need more than these great compliments? even a 1882 made lighthouse still working well and we can spend more than a day to explore the tranquility of its islet –where the lighthouse stand still– …. pulau lengkuas. and the others … granite boulders surrounded the bay and cape, where we address them proudly as stonehenge by the sea.
so far, we already made trip to all of the beaches in west belitung.
we’d been to:
– tanjung tinggi [tanjung means cape]
– tanjung kelayang
– pulau babi [pulau means island and here is small island or islet]
– pulau kelayang
– tanjung binga
– pulau lengkuas
– tanjung berhantu
– bukit berahu [berahu hills]
the unforgetable journey in belitung is about exploring the beaches on foot by two of us. we’re walking from tanjung tinggi to the edge of tanjung kelayang and our steps just stop whenever the paths is ending in someone’s house [private property]. and “doggies nakal” barking around us. strange, since we loves dogs and so rarely happened … we found unfriendly doggies!
but it doesn’t matter …. we already got most beautiful pictures which taken on that evening. one of them as appears here and became my favorite … the silhouette on a pier to direction lighthouse of pulau lengkuas. my beloved ones commenting “remind me with a scene of apocalypse now”🙂
in this page, i would like to say thanks to the locals who always help us and company us and share so many good and fun stories and takes us as one of their relatives. pak umar, pak derali, mas herman, ibu warung who always provided fresh grilled fish in tanjung kelayang, pak acin and his nice wife to whom i learn to talk in belitung accent, pak yazin who still climb up the coconut trees for us even his age is about 70!, the semarang boys who are working in telecommunication tower nearby tanjung tinggi and all of the employees in tanjung kelayang guest house.
but alas .. as i told previously in first paragraph. visiting belitung means we have to be ready to get bitten by the sandflies. the small-mini-tiny creature just like imitating grain of sand will bite and send the poisonous toxic in our blood. and it means we got itchy attack which usually happened every midnight to 2 o’clock in the morning! and it will takes about 5 – 7 days living in hell because more you scratch more you get itchy and painful skin! mon Dieu!
